In Cooperation with the Curtis Palmer Programme (CPP), the Club is organising a mountain challenge on the 25th of May 2024. This will be a one-day challenge event focused on teamwork and encouragement exercise. We will strive to work effectively to support each other and the emphasis will be on the NHS 5 core steps to better mental health and wellbeing.
1. Socialise with others.
2. Physical exercise.
3. Help others/team work.
4. Learn new skills.
5. Mindfulness/concentrate on the now.
We will be supported by voluntary staff from the CPP and a Commando PTI. The overall objective is to work as an effective team to support Ben Parkinson MBE to reach the top of Pen Y fan. Ben is an inspirational individual and a former paratrooper, veteran campaigner and author. He is the most severely wounded soldier to survive the War in Afghanistan. Both his legs were amputated, he broke his back and suffered lasting brain damage when the Land Rover he was travelling in struck a landmine in 2006. He defied his doctors' expectations by learning to walk and talk again
At the summit, we will have light refreshments and change in to smart attire for a formal photo and retire to a local pub afterwards for food and should be down by lunchtime. In recognition of the challenge and your commitment to participate and achieve our overall objective, each participant will be presented with a copy of Bens book signed by him.
We will ask that you make a small financial contribution towards purchasing food for a local food bank and the local Commando PTIs run something called Tin Phys and collect cans and deliver them to those at need at local food banks. As we are being supported by them, it is only right that we reciprocate this kindness
All other transport, food provision and logistical support will be covered by the Club
